Other Interests

Here's a list of my non-academic interests:

Rowing

  • Illinois Rowing

I have recently started moonlighting as a rower in the Illinois Rowing Men's Team. I've been rowing for less than two years, but it is a lot of fun! Why else would I wake up at 4am, 6 days a week?

Environmentalism

  • Jane Goodall Institution-Roots and Shoots Malaysia

I volunteered with Roots and Shoots Malaysia on several occasions including Dr. Jane Goodall's talk, "Reasons for Hope" and Chade-Meng Tan's discussion at the Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC). I was also trained to represent Roots and Shoots at at public events through the Train the Trainer programme.

  • Worldwide Fund for Nature India

I prepared the Childrens' Corner in the WWF-India KLSO Newsletter for several issues. I also wrote the script and storyboard for an animated documentary WWF-India is going to produce. Finally, I manned WWF's booth at India's National Biodiversity Congresss.

Choral Speaking

I first got involved in choral speaking as a participant when I scripted, directed and led a team as a senior in high school. This was the first time my school, SMK Wangsa Melawati participated in the competition. We placed third in the district and were selected to represent the district at the state level. However, we withdrew from the competition due to exams clashing with the competition date. After I graduated from SMK Wangsa Melawati, I was asked to coach the school team. I coached the team for 2 years. During this time, my scripts have been used at the state level competition and have inspired scripts that were used at the national level.

Cooking

My interest in cooking arose from my interest in eating! I like to experiment with ingredients and create my own recepies or modify other recepies.

Japanese-inspired chicken and vegetable soup
